Rides and Training

Rides

At the age of 1 year and 8 months, your horse is able to start rides. If you want your horse to have those bonus extra skills, I suggest you do these rides properly. Now, below I will show you what breeds do what rides.

Horses:
  • Appaloosa : Short gallop
  • Arabian : Long steep slope
  • Barb : Long steep slope
  • Brumby : Short gallop
  • Canadian horse : Long steep slope
  • Friesian : Long trotting
  • Hackney : Long trotting
  • Hanoverian : Short steep slope
  • Irish Hunter : Long galloping
  • Marwari : Long galloping
  • Morgan : Long steep slope
  • Mustang : Short galloping
  • Paint : Short gallop
  • Peruvian Paso : Long trotting
  • Purebred Spanish Horse : Short gallop
  • Quarter Horse : Short gallop
  • Russian Don Horse : Long steep slope
  • Standardbred : Short trotting

All the breeds are in alphabetical order so it should be easier for you to find. Now, onto the ponies.

Ponies:
  • Australian Pony : Short steep slope
  • Chincoteague Pony : Short gallop
  • Connemara : Long steep slope
  • Fjord : ? Unknown at this time
  • Newfoundland Pony : Short steep slope
  • Quarter Pony : Long galloping
  • Shetland : Long steep slope
  • Welsh : Short galloping
And even though it's not a pony,
  • Donkey : Long steep slope

Once you know what ride to do, click on it. I will use the Thoroughbred as an example of this guide.

*Remember, pictures used are for the Thoroughbred. You do these steps with your breed and ride*

Once you've clicked, it should look like this:

For a Thoroughbred, it's best to go for 1 hour. If you have any horse that needs any short rides, go 1 hour as well. If your horse needs to do long rides, go for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Once you have clicked your length, it should show skills gained and energy lost. Like this:

Keep on riding - using the same length - until your horse has not much energy left. Make sure you are in a good EC with carrots, or you have a salt stone before you get down to 1 or 2% energy. If you are down low in energy, give your horse a drink, groom, stroke, turnip and 1 or 2 carrots. Don't forget your grains. It will take a couple of months (aging point months) until your horse doesn't gain any skill.

You will know when you've finished your rides when you see this:

Be patient and soon your horse will have no skill gain. Doing your rides properly will add a little to your horse's over all skills each day. Remember once you've finished your rides for the day, make sure your horse has 20% or over energy left. I advise that you finish rides before training bars and competitions just so your horse's day has longer time to ride and you don't muck up the skill gain. I hope this helped you with your horse's rides! Comment if you don't understand something or you need help. Also, I made this tutorial with my own knowledge and time so I ask that you not reproduce or copy this tutorial.

Training

Most people advise that your horse has a Chronos' Timer before starting training. That is not
necessarily true. It does help if you want your horse trained - and possibly BLUPed - at a younger age. Training boosts your horse's skills and chances of winning competitions. Each breed of horse has 3 specific skills. Those skills are the ones you want to complete first. Below, I will show you what skills are assigned to each breed.

Horses:

  • Appaloosa : Speed, dressage, gallop

  • Arabian : Stamina, dressage, jumping

  • Barb : Stamina, speed, dressage

  • Brumby : Speed, stamina, gallop

  • Canadian horse : Stamina, dressage, jumping

  • Friesian : Dressage, stamina, trotting

  • Hackney : Trotting, stamina, dressage

  • Hanoverian : Jumping, gallop, speed

  • Irish Hunter : Dressage, stamina, gallop

  • Marwari : Gallop, dressage, stamina

  • Morgan : Dressage, jumping, stamina

  • Mustang : Speed, gallop, stamina

  • Paint : Speed, gallop, dressage

  • Peruvian Paso : Trotting, stamina, speed

  • Purebred Spanish Horse : Speed, dressage, gallop

  • Quarter Horse : Dressage, speed, gallop

  • Russian Don Horse : Stamina, jumping, dressage

  • Standardbred : Trotting, stamina, speed

  • Thoroughbred : Speed, gallop, dressage

  • Ponies:

    • Australian Pony : Dressage, speed, jumping
    • Chincoteague Pony : Speed, gallop, dressage
    • Connemara : Stamina, dressage, jumping
    • Fjord : Stamina, speed, dressage
    • Newfoundland Pony : Jumping, speed, gallop
    • Quarter Pony : Stamina, speed, dressage
    • Shetland : Jumping, stamina, speed
    • Welsh : Gallop, speed, dressage
And even though it's not a pony,
    • Donkey : Stamina, jumping, dressage
Alrighty, once you know your horse's main skills, train them in that until the bar is finished. Once the bar is finished, it should look like this:

Once you've finished your horse's main skills, work on the other remaining skills. Every time you train your horse, bit by bit, your horses overall skills go up. You can see the overall skills under your horse's information.

If you have a foundation horse - Ouranous and Gaia parents - then it will be harder to get very high skills. Once you've got a bit of breeding behind the horse, and it has some in-born skills, then you can get higher skills, and possibly an elite horse. If you do have an elite horse, it's skills will look like this:

Training is a big part of the horse's life and it is essential to train properly to obtain 100 BLUP. My personal training consists of me putting my horse in an excellent center with carrots, mash and pets. As soon as the horse wakes up, I start training. I train my horses daily in their top skills. I train until the horse has 0 to 5% energy left. Then I feed them, drink, groom, stroke, 2 carrots, turnip and give a salt stone. If they have 20 - 30% energy, I train for X amount of time so that the horse looses 5 - 10% energy. This usually helps me train and it's an efficient and quick way. If you have a horse that you want to train fast, save up 2 passes - or buy them - to buy a Chronos' Timer. You can also nosy around and see if any player is selling one. If you don't understand anything about training, comment or contact me through Howrse. Also, I spent my time and knowledge on making this tutorial, so I ask that you don't steal or reproduce in any way.
